Charles Edouard Du Bois
American, 1847-1885

Charles Edouard Dubois. Born in West Hoboken, New Jersey, Dubois exhibited at the Brooklyn Art Association, National Academy of Design, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and the Paris Salons, and judging from his extant work spent most of his short life living and painting in Europe. A few modest early landscapes from the 1860s have appeared at auction, but his more ambitious picturesque views of sites in Italy, France, Germany and Egypt tend to date from the 1880s, his most active period. He is recorded as having worked as a portraitist as well.
