Warren W. Sheppard
American, 1858-1937

Warren Sheppard studied at the Cooper Union Art School; he also studied in Paris and in Venice.

He exhibited at the Brooklyn Art Association 1974-81;  National Academy of Design, 1880-99; Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, 1884;  St. Louis Exposition, 1904;  Denver Exposition, 1884 (Gold).

His works are exhibited at Toledo Museum of Art; Springfield Public Library; Addison Gallery of American Art; Mystic Seaport Museum; and Peabody Museum.  As a marine painter, he was acutely aware of details because he was also designer and navigator of racing yachts.  He sailed widely along the New England coast, painting scenes from New Jersey to Maine. 

He won the famous New York to Bermuda Race, and published the authoritative Practical Navigation. 

He is best known for his paintings of canal scenes in Venice.
